Is Sleep Apnea keeping you awake? Is snoring keeping your spouse awake? We have a simple solution – an alternative to the cumbersome CPAP.
Sleep Apnea is a life-threatening disorder and should not go un-treated because you can't wear your CPAP! We can make a custom-fit plastic mouthpiece for treating sleep apnea. The mouthpiece will adjust your lower jaw and your tongue to help keep your airways open while you sleep.
Treatment Options
TIRED OF CPAP? We have an alternative!
Oral Appliance Therapy is completely non-invasive and painless. It is a mouthpiece, for patients with primary snoring or mild to moderate Sleep Apnea. They are small devices that you wear while you sleep. They are similar in size to an Orthodontic Retainer or Sports Mouthguard. They are very comfortable, easy to wear, and easy to travel with. These appliances can be used alone or in conjunction with other treatments. Oral Appliances work by attempting to prevent the collapse of the tongue and soft tissues in the back of your throat, keeping your airway open to allow adequate air intake. They work to reposition the lower jaw, tongue, soft palate, and uvula. Oral Appliance Therapy involves selecting an appropriate design, and then custom fitting it to your teeth.
CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) is pressurized air from a bedside machine and delivered through a tube that connects to a mask, covering the nose. The air forces and maintains the airway open while you sleep. This is a very successful treatment option, however many people find the masks very uncomfortable, cumbersome to wear and noisy.
Sleep Apnea / Snoring
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is the most common sleep disorder affecting over 18 million people in the United States. Sleep Apnea is characterized by loud or heavy snoring interrupted by the stopping of breathing for more than 10 seconds.
Under diagnosed and frequently dismissed simply as harmless yet annoying snoring, “obstructive sleep apnea” (OSA) is a very dangerous condition. If you or a loved one snore loudly at night, please have a sleep study done to rule out this potentially fatal condition.
The word “apnea” literally means “without breath.”
How Does Sleep Apnea Occur?
Snoring occurs when the airway or passage through which we breathe becomes partially blocked or occluded. An example would be a tongue that falls back as we drift off into deeper sleep. As the diameter or size of the airway passage is shrinking, the net result is a muffled sound secondary to vibrations in the throat, or snoring.
These incidences can happen many times per hour and hundreds of times in a night’s sleep. When breathing stops, the snoring stops until the individual chokes and gasps for air. They will awaken briefly, sometimes violently, interrupting their sleep patterns and in the morning will have no memories of these incidences.
There are three types of apnea. In all three, people with untreated sleep apnea stop breathing repeatedly during their sleep, sometimes hundreds of times during the night and often for a minute or longer.
Three Types of Apnea:
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) the most common is usually caused when the soft tissue in the rear of the throat collapses and closes completely during sleep.
Central sleep apnea is not caused by a blocked airway but rather the brain’s failure to signal the muscles to breathe.
Mixed apnea is a combination of the two.
With each apnea event, the brain briefly arouses people with sleep apnea for them to resume breathing, but consequently sleep is extremely fragmented and of poor quality.
Health Risks of Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Risk factors include being male, overweight, and over the age of forty, but sleep apnea can strike anyone at any age, even children. Yet still because of the lack of awareness by the public and healthcare professionals, the vast majority remain undiagnosed and therefore untreated, despite the fact that this serious disorder can have significant consequences.
Untreated, sleep apnea can cause:
Drug resistant high blood pressure
Cardiovascular disease
Memory problems
Obesity
Impotency
Headaches
Moreover, untreated sleep apnea may be responsible for job impairment and motor vehicle crashes. For those who are struggling with Sleep Apnea or Snoring, are frustrated with using a CPAP, or have a family member, friend, neighbor, or co-worker who has these problems, contact us to schedule a free consultation with us to learn more.

I had some cap work done by Dr. Binafard in Norwalk and I am very pleased. He was very professional about the way he did things, very prompt. I was very satisfied with the way my teeth look and I will be sure to go back and have any other work done in the future with the Doctor. Thank you very much!

I come to Dr. Binafard’s office. He’s a wonderful dentist, he’s very thorough, and he goes over your whole treatment plan with you. He lets you know exactly what is the cause, what is your outcome, and what needs to be done from there. If you have any type of question he’s there to answer it for you and its not like somebody else comes to talk to you, he’s the person that lets you know and he sits down with you. He’s very kind, he’s a wonderful dentist, I’ve done fillings, crowns, and I even had my wisdom teeth pulled here. I’ve had no problems with any of my fillings, they feel wonderful and no sensitivity at all. Also, with my crowns I’ve never had any problems with them either. The great thing about Dr. Binafard is that he is very, very careful with you and he understands if your scared or if you feel uncomfortable. He’s there and he’s very calm and patient with you, which is great. This office is a very family oriented office because I bring my children here and he’s great with them, its not like he shoves the parents out and puts the kids in. I see everything going on and he doesn’t do things that don’t need done. My kids love him because he’s a great dentist. He has specialists that come in as well so you don’t have to worry about going to a different office. I would recommend Dr. B to anybody. Once you meet him, you’ll understand. Thank you!

Both of my kids get checked at Pioneer Dental. We LOVE it there! Everyone is super nice. I just recently took my 5 year old daughter there and was pleased with the results. The dentist took the time to explain to her what they were going to do and showed her all the tools they were going to use. There was a bit of crying but nothing too bad. I will keep bringing both my kids here.

I can't express enough what an amazing dentist Dr. Binafard is. His staff is friendly and very helpful. I went in for a second opinion (I was told by another dentist that I need a root canal). It turns out I did not need one. Dr Binafard saved me a root canal and crown (major $$$$). He's honest and that's amazing!!!! I highly recommend him.
